In probably my best ever ride, I was fortunate in winning the Bournemouth Jubilee '25' in 1954. Charlie Marriner was second by a few seconds. He shook my hand afterwards. A gentleman.

Charlie regularly rode at Littlehampton (grass-track) August Bank Holiday sports, often in an individual pursuit vs Eddie Lines (Yiewsley Road Club) and a team pursuit vs Brighton Stanley. Also
remember with pleasure Frank Drinkwater, Eva Cummings and John Bampton, who treated a young "tuggo" with warmth and friendship. -
i worked with charlie between 1961 to 66 he taught me a lot in the heating trade he was a true gentleman he even came to my wedding

Good Afternoon Julian. In the photos my father Dick Barrett appears in 34 36 and 37. I only met your Dad when I was relatively young (born in 1941). I get the impression that my father who lived ate
and breathed Southern Paragon was something of a mentor to your father. -
Hi Julian, great to see the pictures of your dad and find this site. I have on loan from Jimmy Hyde a box of newspaper clips and photos about his father who owned Hyde Bros cycles in Parchment
street.Jim informed me Charlie worked in the shop and built his own frames. Please contact me for more info. Tim. -
I met your dad a few brief times in my life when riding in the New Forest, I think. Full of life if I remember and he said he could still do 80 mile a day without a problem. At the time so could I
but was 30 years younger than he was. I did not know him well but both my Aunt and Uncle did. My Uncle is in Picture Number 42 on far right. My Aunt and Bill Robbins also knew him. He had a number of
Rotrax’s bikes all made to measure as one off’s to fit Charlie. There is a lot of information on the web now says that he had bikes had brakes but most, take it from me he had none, just had just a
fixed wheel. When Charlie got the record the bike was reduced to the minimum not even grips on the bars and if you look at the pictures no brakes.
